Transition to 3 year old services
by admin on Mar.01, 2010, under 2010
This month my son is being evaluated for 3 year old services. I am not concerned about his eligibility since I will most likely not be sending him to a public preschool, but if insurance or whatever comes up, I wanted it in our back pocket.
In my search to find medical transportation, I ran across these links. Hope they might help.
A preschool check-list (more aimed at special needs children)
You don’t have to be wrong for me to be right
If you know or have any personal experience with MAC or St Davids ADT…I would LOVE to talk to you. Please leave meĀ a comment as we are in heavy decision making mode and do not want to move forward with any new therapies without some feedback.
We are also considering sending our son to OT, speech, PT privately again. Just trying to find availability and a good location to make this all work together smoothly. It’s a non-stop search…

Hi,
I am running an autism toddler program to evaluate an early intervention model. The program is aimed at toddlers and preschool children.
I understand your reticence to join further therapies. My experience is that this has closed the developmental gap for children across a range of special educational needs.
Please come visit me at http://www.autism-toddler-program.com
Please feel free to ask me questions about the program.

Hey MAM
I am enrolling my son at MAC. He is 3 this month as well. He has been in speech.OT on and off since 18 mos, it isnt enough to go once or twice a week. I work FT and its impossible to rienforce the methods consistently every day. Finally we found and arranged for part time home based ABA program through TEFRA (my insurance is worthless for this). The therapies are comfortable and fun for him. He enjoys the interactive time and has been leaping into learning many new communication methods in just the past few weeks. This is coincedent with starting a chiropractic treatment. Anyways, we have also done the preschool deal, which we are still doing 1 time week, again, its great experience for him and teh diversity of treatments i see as a plus; but the advice i have received whole heartedly, and found to feel right, is to find something more intensive, such as a center or home based program, at least for a year or two. This IS the precious time to help him find new ways to interpret and share his world. I dont want to wait either, i want to be able to talk with him, we all have much to share.

How long has he been at MAC? Are you happy with the services, communication, general care? If you would be more comfortable discussing this privately, I can send you my email. We could take them up on an opening, but I am not getting a clear idea of how the day is structured. Do they use ABBLES-R? Does he play/interact with other kids at all? Or is it all 1-1 all day? Is there anything I should know about them before starting? And lastly, do they use punishment? Someone told me that these types of programs do stand up/sit down punishment and I was wondering if that is true.
I am confused about what you wrote above, does he go FT or PT? My email is erica 873 @ g mail dot com if you would prefer to answer my questions privately. I hope we can discuss soon, as we are trying to make these tough decisions now.
I appreciate your support since we are both in a very similar situation with kids about the same age.
